My Cortland apple

I was probably in a hurry to finish up this sketch and eat this apple. Cortlands are my favourite.

Easy Apple Cake

  • Core and slice 4 apples into wedges

  • 1/4 cup white sugar

  • 1/4 cup shortening

  • 1 cup flour

  • 1 1/4 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1/2 cup milk

  • 1 egg

  • 1/2 cup white sugar

  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Cream shortening with sugar, then add the egg and mix. Combine the dry ingredients, then add to the shortening mixture, alternating with milk. Spread batter in greased 9-inch baking pan. Press sliced apples on top in rows. Spread a mix of 1/2 cup white sugar, 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon evenly on top.

Bake at 375°F for 20-25 minutes. Then cover the pan with tin foil and bake an additional five minutes. Remove from oven, let cool.
